On August 29, Marlene and I are off to Zimbabwe where we will spend the full month of September. The primary reason of this trip is to continue developing strategy there for planting churches within people groups who do not learn primarily through literate means but are part of an oral culture. We are collaborating there with a wonderful team in this initiative. We are using Chronological Bible Storying as the basis for this plan of action. To date we have developed a story list running from Genesis to the events of the Day of Pentecost in Acts Chapter 2 as our evangelism track. We are already hearing great reports as the first of these stories are being told in one of the new church plants there.
On this journey we will continue to develop a track of stories for church planting especially from the Book of Acts. We want to tell the stories of how the Holy Spirit led the Apostles (and others) to plant churches in nation after nation in order to carry out the Great Commission to make disciples of all nations. What happened in that early church certainly is meant to be a model to us in this present generation.
While we are in Zimbabwe we will also have the privilege of participating in two conferences there. The first will be the Champion’s Conference, which is particularly for those engaged in the Farming God’s Way initiative. I have been asked to share a series of messages on being free from spiritual strongholds. We anticipate that many will experience new freedom in their life in Christ. We will finish the month by joining with Dave and Liz Holden from the UK in participating in the annual Mega Vision Conference that in recent years has been a great blessing for many who have attended.
I would like to ask you to pray for us. The Apostle Paul asked this of the Thessalonian believers with these words; “Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith.” (2 Thess. 3:1-2) I’ll just make his words mine. Please do the same for us. Thanks!
